Despair: Day 4
We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself.
2 Corinthians 1:8 NIV
Thought
Grief creates great pressure in your life. You feel pressured by others who say, “You’ve got to get on with your life.” Societal pressures urge you to rejoin life before you have fully engaged with your loss, because the world is not waiting on you, or for you. In grief you encounter the pressure of new responsibilities. When pressure seems beyond your ability to endure, your inclination may be to despair of life itself. Pressure is unsustainable. Your despair finds its best release through the spiritual outlet of prayer.
Prayer
God, you know the pressure I experience every day in all things large and small. Pressure seems magnified by my grief. I pray for the ability to endure. Fortify my soul and spirit that I do not despair of life itself. Amen.
Assurance
I know that, with God’s strength, I have the ability within to endure through grief.
