Emotional: Day 2
Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life.”
Revelation 21:6 NRSV
Thought
The infrastructure of life consists of both beginning and end. Perhaps like most, you would like to control the “when” of both the beginning and end of most things in life. No more than you can control the exact moment that a child is born can you control death or the end of your grief. Each person starts at a different point in grief; likewise, the end of grief comes in a different way for each. Grief may have begun as a small wave that swelled through stages of illness, crashing onto the shores of your well-ordered life as the end of life neared. Grief may end as the tide of sorrow retreats to honor, acceptance, and hope.
Prayer
God, you are the only certain beginning and end. As my grief becomes acceptance, I thirst for the water of life. Amen.
Assurance
When and how grief begins may affect how long my grief lasts.
