For many Christians, grief is sometimes framed in self-denial. Those who feel guilty for crying or being sad may believe that a person of strong faith should feel happy to know that a loved one is in heaven. You can believe beyond doubt that a loved one is with God, but you are human. You are in pain. You hurt. This does not mean that you are a bad Christian or that your faith is weak. It means that grief and faith are connected in Christ. “And without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Hebrews 11:6 NRSV).
