Forgiving Yourself: Day 2

“Occasions for stumbling are bound to come. . . .If there is repentance, you must forgive.”
Luke 17:1, 3 NRSV

Thought

In grief it is easy to stumble over all the wrong things. Perhaps you struggle to forgive yourself for your human impotence to save your loved one from death. Or perhaps you wish that you might have offered or received a parting word of forgiveness. When you forgive yourself those things that never can be relived or changed, you free that emotional energy to invest in new life.

Prayer

God, I tenaciously hang on to that which cannot be altered. I know that you already have forgiven me my perceived and real failures. May I accept your love and forgive myself. Amen.

Assurance

In forgiveness there is release.
