Others: Day 2

Trust in the LORD, and do good; so you will live in the land, and enjoy security.

Psalm 37:3 NRSV

Thought

Whom do you trust with your emotional vulnerability in grief? The intimacy required to share your grief with another demands unreserved trust. Someone of depth, compassion, or personal experience whom you trust will allow you to talk and pour out your heart without judgment or easy, formulaic advice. Perhaps you neither need nor want professional counseling or therapy—only the listening ear of a confidential friend. In grief it takes inordinate trust to believe that you can be truly heard, understood, or comforted by another human being.

Prayer

God, I desire the security of complete trust in you. May I learn again to open my heart to the listening care of others. Amen.

Assurance

When I listen in love, I do something good for someone else.
