The Future: Day 2
As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life.
1 Timothy 6:17-19 NRSV
Thought
The apostle Paul makes an important point, especially about a good foundation for the future. Regardless of whether or not you are among those who “in the present age are rich” in material wealth, when you grieve you ask very human questions about your financial security. “Will I have enough money to live?” “Who can I trust with my money?” “Will I have a job and be able to work?” Although the things of this world may quickly pass away, your foundation for the future is in spiritual treasure.
Prayer
God, you richly provide me with everything for my use and enjoyment. In response to your grace, may I be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share as a good foundation for the future. Amen.
Assurance
I take hold of the life that really is life.
